Reem Court Structure Fire Press Release

On November 13, 2012, the El Dorado Hills Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Reem Court. The occupant called 911 for smoke detector activation. El Dorado Hills Fire units responded along with assistance from El Dorado County Fire, El Dorado County Sheriff, and the City of Folsom Fire Department. El Dorado Hills Fire was the first to arrive and found the attic to be heavily involved in fire with smoke showing from the eaves. The occupants had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire units. Units were assigned to fire attack, vertical ventilation, and salvage/overhaul of the interior. As crews attempted to pull ceiling and attack the fire, the tile roof collapsed. All crews were then immediately accounted for as fire attack strategy was changed due to safety concerns. The attic fire was eventually extinguished with a majority of personal property successfully salvaged to the non-affected garage areas.

Pescara Place Press Release

On February 21, 2012, at 11:55 a.m., Division Chief 8502, all four EDH engines, Truck 85, Medic 85, Air 85 and two automatic aid engines from Rescue and Cameron Park responded to a residential structure fire on Pescara Place in the Serrano subdivision. Division Chief 8502 and Engine 86 from the Bass Lake Station were the first to arrive and prepared for an interior attack on the fire which was located in a third floor bedroom and was extending into the attic.  E86's crew, which happened to have four personnel on-duty instead of three because of a new firefighter apprentice program, made entry into the home and found extremely hot and smoky conditions in the third floor stairwell.  The crew requested ventilation from Truck 85, which had just arrived on scene.  Truck 85's crew ventilated the third floor by reaking windows from the elevated ladder, thus allowing Engine 86 to enter the third floor bedroom and quickly extinguish the fire.  Other on-scene crews provided support by performing a secondary search of the home for possible victims, checking the attic for extension, and assisting with salvage and overhaul operations.

Salmon Falls fire

On December 17, 2011 at 4:21 a.m., Engine 84 responded to a residential structure fire in the Salmon Falls area. The owners of the home were awakened by a large "popping" sound and attempted to put water on the fire with a garden hose while dialing 911. Upon arrival, E84 reported a fully involved garage fire threatening the rest of the house.  Power lines to the house were arcing and hindered the crews efforts to attack the fire. Once the garage portion of the fire was knocked down, crews were able to fight an established attic fire and vertically ventilate the structure. The fire was stopped in the front portion of the attic and the majority of the home was saved.  Rescue Fire, Cameron Park (Cal Fire), and PG&E assisted with call.

Tea Rose Drive Fire

On December 23, 2011 at 08:43 a.m., units from El Dorado Hills Fire Department, Cameron Park Fire Department and Rescue Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Tea Rose Drive in the Hills of El Dorado subdivision. Engine 88 from Cameron Park Fire and Engine 86 from El Dorado Hills Fire (Bass Lake Road Station) arrived simultaneously and attacked the fire which had started in some leaf litter just below a pellet stove vent on the outside of the structure.  The fire extended to a fence and worked its way up the side of the house, eventually making its way back into the chimney chase through a crack just under the eave. The homeowner was attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose upon the Fire Department's arrival; however, the fire had already established itself inside the structure's walls and required some demolition of the interior sheetrock and exterior stucco to fully extinguish.  Had the homeowners not discovered the fire and called 911 as quickly as they had, the outcome would have been far worse. Keeping the pellet stove vent area clear of leaves could have prevented this fire from occurring.  The same preventative measure goes for tree branches or flammable items located near chimneys, vents, barbeques, and other possible heat sources.
