"Our Mission: We, the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, exist to serve and protect the Community through emergency management."

Thank you Eagle Scout Candidate Ryan McCaffree

Ryan_Eagle_ProjectThe El Dorado Hills Fire Department would like to thank Ryan McCaffree for his valuable emergency preparedness service to our neighborhoods.  Ryan is a Life Scout with Troop 728 and is nearly finished with the many requirements to become an Eagle Scout.  As a service project Ryan worked with his parents, scout leaders and the fire department to plan and carry out a service project for Residential Address Visibility Improvement.

Ryan and his fellow scouts and leaders surveyed five different neighborhoods consisting of 286 homes.  Each home was checked to see if emergency responders could easily find the proper address.  They found 12 percent of the homes had address numbers that were missing, faded, obstructed by vegetation or otherwise unable to read.  The group visited the homes where the address was missing or very hard to find and talked with the residents about the importance of good visibility for their address numbers.  When they found no one at home they left an information flyer with details of the need for good visibility and the local standards for address numbers on homes.

The group returned after three weeks to find that many of the owners had corrected the visibility problems.  They were also prepared with stencils, tape and paint to paint new curb address numbers for the residents that needed that service.

“Hats off” to Eagle Scout Candidate Ryan McCaffree, the McCafree family and Scouts of Troop 728 for their dedicated efforts to this project!  Under Ryan’s leadership, the El Dorado Hills community has become safer and better prepared in the event of an emergency.

Sincerely,

EL DORADO HILLS FIRE DEPARTMENT
