The El Dorado Hills Fire Department Training Division consists of three shift Battalion Chiefs. This Division generates, implements and maintains programs supporting the safe, efficient and effective actions of District personnel. The Training Division serves both the full-time Career Staff and Volunteer Firefighters.
This Division specializes in in-house training and conveys new concepts and techniques, reinforces existing skills and addresses modern advances in the delivery of emergency services which maintain the high skill level of District personnel. Specialized training programs cover such diverse topics as Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting, Low Angle Rope Rescue, Auto Extrication, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Flood and Swift Water Rescues. The basics to maintain a high level of proficiency in emergency services include continual education in Para-medicine and performance standards for all tools and equipment available to the fire personnel.
The Department is committed to providing training that meets fire service industry standards. This is accomplished by utilizing the vast variety of Department personnel and the talents and expertise they possess. Additionally, the Training Division uses instructors certified by the California State Fire Marshal, National Wildfire Coordinating Group, California Incident Command Certification System and other recognized certifying agencies.
The Training Division works with our internal personnel to build promotional academies to offer education and opportunity those that desire to promote. Additionally, we have implemented Task Books for each rank to assist personnel in preparing for future promotions and additional skill sets.
In conjunction with Human Resources, the Training Division conducts promotional examinations for career and volunteer personnel positions. We coordinate training for newly hired firefighters and volunteers, as well as assist with the El Dorado County Training Officers Volunteer Recruit Fire Academy.
The Training Division maintains a very active role in the El Dorado County Training Officer Association, along with joint training with surrounding agencies.
The Training Division's mission is to ensure that El Dorado Hills Fire Department personnel provide the highest level of emergency and non-emergency services to the community and return home safely at the end of each shift. This aligns with our Department mission statement: "We, the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, exist to serve and protect the Community through emergency management."
