explorerThe El Dorado Hills Fire Department Explorer Program is designed for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the fire service. The Explorer program provides students an opportunity to engage in fire department training and public service activities with professional firefighters in and around the community of El Dorado Hills.

The goal of the Explorer program is to prepare students for the next step of their fire service education within local community college districts. We intend to prepare students for entry into EMT and Fire Academy classes.

The El Dorado Hills Fire Department Explorer Program engages in weekly drills. The Explorer can expect to learn about various types of subject matter related to the Fire Service such as CPR, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, Ladders, Vehicle Extrication, Fire Suppression, Fire Hose, Fire Department Regulations, and many other exciting topics. All topics are instructed by Fire Department personnel.

Explorers are also expected to participate in additional community service events including, Santa Run, Fill the Boot, Smoke Detector giveaways, and Active Shooter training. Explorer Candidates must posses a 2.0 grade-point average, have no felony convictions, be in good health and a non-drug or alcohol user.

El Dorado Hills Fire Department operates a variety of firefighting, EMS and Emergency Management apparatus and vehicles form our five stations. Below you will find an inventory of each vehicle.  Type 1 Engines are used for structure fires and Type 3 Engines are used for wildland fires.
